I am often asked about the meaning of the CHSS logo. It is too long of a story for me to tell, on most occasions, so I thought it might be a good idea to tell the story behind the logo in writing.

When I was growing up, I often played the game of chess with my father. He tried to teach me the concepts of the game, and I am sure he had to exercise the most important concept of the game as he taught me, which is patience. Not only patience is required in order to master the game, but several others in my opinion including: strategic thinking, self-control, thorough knowledge of the board (situation), and a drive to succeed! There are probably many other concepts/virtues that one must have to master the game. However, these are the ones that seem to be vital, in my opinion.

So, the chess piece in the center of our logo is an important symbol of our tought process as we approach our work. We believe that strategy, patience, a thourough knowledge of the situation, and a drive to succeed in whatever mission we might undertake at any point in time, are vital.

The symbol surrounding the chess piece in our logo is that of a hurricane! This type of storm is associated with destruction, chaos, and in some minds, the opportunity to rebuild better and stronger.

When combined, these two symbols represent our core concept: To bring strategic thinking and leadership in times of chaos. We believe that in the absence of leadership, chaos exists. There are inevitably going to be periods of chaos and confusion during a disaster event. However, someone must provide leadership and strategic thinking within the midst of the chaos in order to ensure that a successful response and relief effort is undertaken, and ultimately that a successful and efective recovery is achieved.

CHSS is committed to brining an element of calm, self-assured and strategic, thinking to the environment that exists during any disaster or high stress event.

Finally, the initials that make up our company name are meant to continually remind our team, and our clients, that we are built around the concepts of a very strategic and timeless game that has meaning and consequence behind its every move.
